Technology & Telecommunications

Over the course of the last seven years, the Energy, Utility & Telecommunications practice group has been actively involved on a national basis, in over twenty-five states, as they have worked towards establishing minimum functionality criteria for advanced metering. Our attorneys vigorously track and follow changes in legislation and regulatory requirements for technology related to the development of a Smart Grid on both a federal and state level. Our attorneys have also developed extensive experience in representing cutting edge telecommunications and technology companies who are providing the next generation of telecommunications services and are creating hardware and software products that are revolutionizing both the telecom and energy verticals.

We have experience in working on issues such as Advanced Metering and the creation of an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) as part of Smart Metering initiatives related to the promotion of the Federal Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPACT).  We also have considerable experience in the area of Broadband over Powerline (BPL) technology issues and the creation and perpetuation of a Smart Grid and related applications into the home. The Energy, Utility & Telecommunications practice group is continuing to cultivate its experiences and grow its knowledge base in Smart Metering and Smart Grid regulatory issues by monitoring and being a party to cases and working groups created because of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA).
