The Department of Health Selects a New Director of Medical Marijuana
The Department of Health announced today that it selected John J. Collins, to serve as the Director of the Medical Marijuana Program effective August 8, 2016. Mr. Collins recently joined the Department of Health in April and currently serves as a public health program assistant administrator in the Division of HIV Disease. Before joining the Department of Health, Mr. Collins was the chief operating officer for Triad Isotopes, Inc., in Orlando, Florida, a nuclear pharmaceutical company. He is a certified allied health professional and holds an MBA with a concentration in marketing from Lindenwood University and completed leadership training at the Wharton School, Aresty Institute of Executive Education, University of Pennsylvania.
The Department of Health sited his experience within the heavily regulated medical field, market research and new product development as the reason for his selection as head of this program.
Secretary of Health Dr. Karen Murphy noted that “Mr. Collins has an impressive record of executive leadership experience that will serve him well in his new role of overseeing the commonwealth’s high-quality, efficient and compliant medical marijuana program.”
